Matthew 14:21; 15:38
Today, our leader started in low gear…then, BOOM…his message (as above) excelled to a spiritual blast! Whew! Indeed, he is one who can retain what he read & studied, having the anointing and who also has a deep revelation of the scriptures!
“And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.”
“The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children.”
Matthew 14:21 indicate that the total number of people who ate the food Jesus created from five loaves and two fish could easily have been 15–20,000. This verse reveals that five thousand "men" were present, specifically not counting the women and children.
Matthew 15:38: Said disciple saved this detail for the end of the story. The Provider did not miraculously feed a roomful of people from 7 loaves and a few fishes. He fed 4,000 men; in addition to any women and children present. That could have added up to 10 or 12,000 people or more! The difference in this count of the crowd from the previous miracle feeding is more evidence that those were two different events in the ministry of Jesus!
Again there were 2 similar miracles back to back in both chapters; both were related to each other.
Matthew 14:1-12 describes how Herod the tetrarch, ruler over Galilee, and heard of Jesus’ fame and power! He believed Jesus was a resurrected John the Baptist. Matthew then explained that Herod had arrested John the Baptist. His “crime” was publicly condemning Herod’s marriage to his own brother’s wife.
Later, Herod was manipulated into a promise by his wife’s daughter, after she danced for him and his guests. On behalf of her mother, she asked for John the Baptist’s head on a platter (Mark 6:14-29). Herod agreed and had John executed immediately! John’s disciples came and buried him; then went and told Jesus the news of his death!
Again, John was set up by Herod’s wife! He was so pleased that he would give her one-half the kingdom. She danced before him and requested the head of John!
“And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
As human beings, we regret or feel bad of wanting to do wrong, but we give in to the negativity of others. The Sovereignty of God will keep His promise! All of His promises are yea and in Him, amen! 2 Corinthians 1:20. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.”
When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed Him on foot out of the cities. Jesus beloved cousin (John) just didn’t die but his head was decapitated and served on a platter! John facilitated the Lord when He was baptized in Jordan River!
What do you do when life drives you into a desert place? What happens when you are escorted into illusion/loneliness? Also addicted to pills, alcohol, dark-life style; the bars, promiscuity, etc. Where did life leave you? Jesus went into seclusion and needed moments to Himself…He needed to be left alone!
Sometimes, things just get off track and old with life: Parenting, marriage, new job, et al. Where will this lead me? We know that things can get so bad that it’s best to leave the house instead of doing something drastic in your home. It’s better to burn that gas in your car than burn the whole house down!
The Savior gotten way for moments of humility! What do you do when things (relationships, job, churches affect your entire being). Remember, the Holy One took a moment and the moment took Him! Know that you need time to yourself to refresh your mind, thoughts & attitude! I heard bad news; now, you’re adding more “coals to the fire!”
You’ve messed up my vacation, family, livelihood or whatever! Instead of the Redeemer refusing the people to follow Him, He allowed it! It seemed as though He (the Son) should have been ministered to because of John’s cruel death! But, they were so concern about what they could obtain from the Lord! What about those who keep stressing you out? I need a retrieval, and I’ll call you back! Your continued nagging/complaining are not making me ok!
The Prince of Peace did not have time to grieve properly! It’s normal to be sad and mourn! The fortitude or backbone person also must pray & cry; they are touched and hurt too, but some people don’t think that you are weak and can get weary!
You would have thought that the people would have had compassion on the Lord due to His loss of John! But, they were concern about their own needs and kept following Him for deliverance!
For instance, the Canaanite woman who wanted Jesus to heal her daughter: “and He answered and said, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs!” So she said, “Yes, Lord, for even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you want.”
Chapters 14 and 15 shows that people want something different in their life! The thing to do is to ensue the Wonderful Counselor—that’s the key! You’re stressing out over feeding your family but Jesus bore the burdens of others! In 14, you see where miracles happened to the Jews and Chapter 15, another phenomenon for the Gentiles!
Philippians 4:19 states: “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”
Regarding the 2 fishes and 5 loaves of bread, Jesus blessed, broke it and then gave it away! Before God rescues you, He will break the pride, attitude ego, lazy spirit, etc.
There is a blessing in your breakthrough! It’s a blessing when they lied, cheated, disrespected & insulted you! Thank God for the breakage! It purged me; cost me tears and pain but I thank our Heavenly Father! “In everything gives thanks for this is the will of God concerning Christ Jesus our Lord today.”
Closing: He (Jesus) used what He already had (2 fishes & 5 loaves of bread). You don’t need something else, “USE WHAT YOU GOT!” Use those green beans, potted meat, sardines, powdered milk, etc. You don’t have to stress out because you don’t have ribeye steak, shrimp and other high-costing foods! “I will bless the Lord at all times and His praises shall continue to be in my mouth!”
Our overseer indeed, treasures the Word of God as a mind of wealth, a paradise of glory and a river of pleasure! He also knows that it gives life, will be opened at the judgment and forever remembered! Moreover, we are profoundly grateful for His beloved wife, 1st Lady Shania Merriwether, for her love, loyalty and labors in kingdom building!
