Treating Trauma (Pt. 4)

SPEAKER: Bishop/Dr. Robert A. Merriwether, Sr.
With our pastor, the first thing, the main thing, the chief thing is that the heart be kept true towards God and His word! Today’s sermon (and as always) is indicative of the aforementioned! Trauma and spirituality are deeply interconnected and addressing both aspects is crucial for holistic healing!
This is the 4th session from the last 3 Sundays of instructional teachings! Example: Pastor used his I-pad. The first 7-10 minutes went blank or black because the battery was low and it needed an update which he kept putting off! Every time that it requires attention, he kept procrastinating to revise it immediately!
Sometimes, we put the “spiritual snooze” button on whereas, God is saying to renew your attitude, thinking and posture of thoughts! If not, you will suffer with a “force” update—an inconvenient time when it catches you ought guard! Remember: The altar call is your chance to make amends!
Bear in mind: “This I recall to my mind, therefore, have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.”
Allow your leader to be your pastor and not a nurse or visitor at the Mecklenburg County Jail; all because you refuse to be submissive (via seeking God and counseling)! Traumas are growing aspects of your life. People can do you wrong by having you cornered! There are some folk hoping that you respond with maturity despite the fact that they are immature!
“And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he buried his father; and when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying; so shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren and their sin; for they did unto thee evil; and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.”
Someone is depending upon you to do the right thing. Again, even if your opposer(s) did you wrong! Don’t let it be an “eye for an eye” and “tooth for tooth.”
Your part is to do that which is righteous in God’s sight and not allow yourself to take revenge! Get rid of the seed that they planted in you! You should not take such matters into your own hands!
When in a dilemma, show yourself strong like: How are my loved-ones? How did the surgery go? What can I do to be a blessing? et al. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath! Is your heart right with God?
Once more, update your mind, emotions, decisions, etc. God is both the Decision-Maker and process so that you might be free! Of course, you don’t want to be a failure! You have to dismiss some individuals from your life! At times, you may not feel like forgiving and failure takes over! However, it’s either “rage or rise” -- One or the other when you see/hear the perpetrator!
Lord, help me to get said people out of my sight! I keep having flare-ups and it makes me nausea! The trauma they have caused me is overwhelming! I said that I forgive but something creeps up in me wanting to retaliate! Work it out, Dear Father! It may be easier for you to be absent from him/her!
Whether a person is sorry or not for what they did, some individuals will get caught up in pride and not admit their wrongdoing or sin! I got to release them for damaging me, my ministry and conscience!
If not careful, we can feel like we’ve forgiven too early but sometimes, forgiveness can come too late! It’s not worth holding on to a grudge! I’m not going to have you live “rent-free” in my mind! Scenario: Just like the bank will not grant you to occupy a dwelling rent-free; so it is with some people that crushes you! Push them out of your mind, time and thoughts—for good!
I must serve the spiritual God who directs me to eradicate those evil thoughts! Of course, you should want love and not hate to build up in your heart! The person who caused the trauma will eventually be punished!
Proverbs 28:13 articulates: “If you hide your sins, you will not succeed. If you confess and reject them, you will receive mercy.” Update: If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” Proverbs 24:10. It’s mandatory to put our faith in the Almighty! Trust Him regardless if they repent or not!
If you’re not prayerful and careful, trickers will have you commit homicide or suicide! Demonstration: The pastor had a deacon hold a robe which was neat and nicely organized. It will take more time to redo to its original form than to undo! If you do something drastic to a person and don’t fix it right away, it will take longer and more frustrating to correct the matter!
If God has the ability to paint a butterfly in every detail, He has the power to turn you into being beautiful--like the wings of a butterfly—and not just in looks! With the Lord, He can straighten out a problem more efficiently than you or I can because it’s out of our hands! Satan is a liar! Savior: Break the chains! Though I’ve been devastated for 10 or 15 years, I plead the blood of Jesus!
May victory be applied! Don’t be a generation curse! You want a doctor to take his time when he sees something that you didn’t see! With every intentional component, the Self-Existent One can correct or calculate it for the best! The objective remains the same but the object changes!
Don’t create affliction with fresh energy by getting someone on your side! When suffering resets, don’t you do the same! It’s not going anywhere when you pay minimum payments on it (like a credit card)! Hugh dividends need to spring into action!
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, “I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:1-6.
Now, Eve transferred her disobedience to her husband, Adam. Be careful for you, too, can transfer transgression or sin! You think you can handle a trauma but your eyes didn’t open until it was too late because of your involvement. When you introduced me to evils, I couldn’t stop! The enemy will take advantage of you and leave you hanging!
Feeding on the Word: With the Truth coming from our orator, we “Hearkened diligently unto the Word and ate that which was good! Thus, our souls were delighted in fatness!” Isaiah 4:2.
We are also grateful for the visible and invisible sacrifices of his beloved wife, 1st Lady, Shania Merriwether! She is also a woman who models Godly with faith and good works!
Moreover, it’s a blessing to acknowledge Sis. Jackie George for recording these sermon notes in my absence! Indeed, it’s good to have people, like her, who are reliable, skillful and kind!
