Treating Trauma (Pt. 5)

SPEAKER:
Bishop Dr. Robert A. Merriwether, Sr.
REFERENCE TEXT:
Matthew 26:47-48
Scripturally sound, our pastor is one to feed us (and as always) “lion portions” to his quickly-growing flock! Again, on today, we were fed scrumptiously from the above topic! Truly, he is among God’s pre-selected souls released upon the earth to help mend human brokenness- directed by divine purpose!
The number, 5, holds significant spiritual meaning in the Bible! It represents grace, mercy and God’s favor! There are 5 primary types of offerings God commanded Israel to bring to Him: Burnt, Sin, Trespass, Grain and Peace Offerings! Forgiveness is also included which is an aspect of “grace.”
Lord: Treat my wound! When upheaval comes, demonic forces surface! We may realize that things are bearable, but we also want to understand why they occur! There are times when your footings lose its stability!
Scenario: Like someone who where eyeglasses or have a ring on his/her finger. After a period of time, they can see the impression that was left on the face or finger! There are circumstances that leaves a scar or mark (mentally and physically) in our life!
The above text states: “And while He yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now, he that betrayed Him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss that same is He; hold Him fast.”
The prior verse (46), indicates: “Rise, let us be going; behold, he is at hand that doth betray Me! Jesus knew the betrayal was coming. But, what happens, when you don’t know? Not only are we devastated from the affliction, but it catches us by surprise and can be equally warped especially when we trusted that individual!
Analogy: A thermostat is a device that controls the temperature in a room. It does this by turning the heating or cooling system on and off as needed. A thermometer, on the other hand, simply measures the temperature in a room. It does not have any control over the heating or cooling system.
A thermostat is fixed and God has called us to be like a it consistent with our values! As a Christian, don’t be “flip floppy” (one and off—up and down)!
Another Comparison: A parent can be like a thermostat to one sibling but a thermometer to the other one? He or she can be too controlling and abusive! A lot of mothers/fathers hurt their children! They take something from one child and give to the other! Perhaps, because that child is a light skinned, smarter, better looking, etc. That can have a lasting effect on the one who is crushed!
As pointed out in Genesis 27:11: “And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.” Jacob went along with it (stealing his brother’s birthright)! It was a demonic covenant!
“Esau was the elder son and had the right to inherit his father, Isaac’s blessing, but Jacob deceived Isaac and took the blessing from Esau. That caused Esau to hate Jacob and vow to kill him, and Jacob fled to his Uncle Laban’s house. The story also shows how God fulfilled His promise to Abraham through Jacob and his descendants.”
Predecessor: Have you turned aside the neglected son or daughter? Like: Love, kindness, respect, etc. When he/her were 4 years old, may ask: Where’s mama? Daddy said I’m not your father! Such things can have a negative impact in years to come! It’s stressful to have knots in your stomach, ministry or purpose! Children (even as adults) know when one is favored more than the other!
When Jacob was wrestling with the angel, he said: I won’t let you go until you bless my soul! He knew that Esau hated him for what he did! We are aware when something is going “down the pipe.” You were abused and disrespected and no one helped!
The way out of any duration is through Jesus! He died for mankind! No matter where or who you are (a new city, church, home; out of the country), the devil will track you down! Trauma will say: You are not going no where! You made a decision to unsubscribe from Satan’s devices via a broken and contrite Spirit and the altar!
Continue to unsubscribe from bitterness, hate, jealousy, etc.? Do you mean to be done with that season or person? The Almighty asked the woman at the well, “Will thou be made whole? The Lord is aware that some folk do not want to be made complete! Some people, like trouble, because it gives them bullets or admonition—power or control!
Love is the answer, despite deficits, (brain injury, paralysis, et al.). The results of excessive candy is a cavity because it went unchecked. You need a filling, root canal, contraction or other dental work because you left the agony unchecked! The more you procrastinate, the longer it takes to deal with it! Point: Don’t let it be years to act appropriately for recovery!
Time is of the essence! When confronted or near the perpetrator, you have a better chance to dissolve the issue! Of course, seeking the Savior should be your 1st choice! Trauma never exits! “Ball in the Box” Metaphor: Grief is a unique emotion that we all experience but, it isn’t permanent! It’s like a shrinking ball in a box! Those comments are also by Dr. Caroline Leaf!
COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) is a disease caused by a virus named SARS-COV-2. It can be very contagious and spreads quickly! Over one million people have died from COVID-19 in the United States! There are things in life that makes you more prone due to other people’s bad behaviors! Illustration: Like diseases are toxic, it’s the same with some people!
There is stuff built up into your system that allows your mind to respond aggressively! Genesis 3:5 mentions: “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Once your eyes were opened, what can you unsee or unhear in your life? What set you up? Experience can change the meaning of something! Again, once trauma enters your life, there is a different attitude to the whole matter! What happens when I couldn’t get the last bombshell out of my mind/life? It went from bad to worse! Was it the hurt, molestation, abandonment, poverty or orphaned? Are you running from a place you no longer live?
The fight is costing much more pain than expected! Eve and Adam’s “nature” was changed whereas Jacob’s “name” was replaced! I have a new nature now! I’m a new creature in God! My body and mind have been redefined!
Trauma, like burns, is excruciating! There are many kinds of burns: Friction, Electrical, Rope, Radiation, Mechanical, Thermal and Cold. There are also different types of knots: Soul, Sailor, Constrictor, Orvis, and others. How you work through things in this life is knotted up! Trauma will change and transform you! I’m not holding on to a grudge but my boundaries! Last time, you got close to me. I refuse to get into another entanglement with you again!
Jesus wants to use what you’ve been through! Although you’re not looking for trauma, it will look for you! Therefore, trust Him! You’ve been tied up too long!
Truly, the intensity of Bishop Merriwether’s messages never wanes as they are dramatic, powerful and anointed! He and his lovely wife, Shania Merriwether (FLOTA) are two lives interwoven together in love and the ministry!
