How to Deal With a Thorn!
Don’t get it twisted. I know who I am!

II Corinthians 12:7-9
On this past Sunday, we witnessed again the inner strength of a devout man of God—our leader (as named above) who expounded the Truth! Certainly, bishop is the type to find, follow and fulfill God’s law as scrolled in Romans 7:12!
“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me”
There have been great arguments about whether Paul’s thorn (or sting) was a physical challenge or spiritual battle! Paul's past included the persecution of the church (Acts 8:1-3; Gal 1:13; Phil 3:6) which may have continually haunted him and kept him humble. Some even propose that Paul dealt with either carnal temptation or depression. Whether or not the thorn was accurately diagnosed, his disclosure was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom but in demonstration of the Spirit of God! 1 Corinthians 2:4.
2 Corinthians 11:23-28 says: “I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.”
However, he made an appeal to relieve himself what he experienced. Like Paul, don’t let negative situations succumb you but let it go! Relief is refreshing...it’s a luxury...it’s profound! Thus, relieve yourself from stress, suicide, financial debt, sickness, divorce, etc. and put it in God’s hands! Paul is exercising or speaking in the third person!
Remember, it’s the office and not the occupier of the office... It’s not about me but the Lord! You don’t have to respect me but respect the office! The Apostle knew who the glory belonged to and that he didn’t deserve to be there. He acknowledged that he was the chief of sinners! We should always reverence the Lord and as stated in Psalm 115:1 “Not unto us, O Lord, Not unto us but unto Thy name give glory…”
While talking to “this man” (Jesus), he was trying to contain his composure but couldn’t. He stated that he would rather glory in his infirmities (persecutions) that the power of Christ may rest upon him!
Do not glory in the gift that God has given you. Don’t be lifted in pride! Don’t get it twisted. I know who I am! I’m anointed and gifted but I also cry, hurt, suffer, bleed—like you! The anointing does not prevent obstacles, confusion, hate, division, etc. Being anointed is not always cute! Some days you love being a minister...other days, you may hate it! You can be on the mountain top, then in the valley. It’s not always easy!
God is looking for an opportunity to eradicate that failure, bankruptcy, let-down, infidelity, debt, mistreatment, or addiction! Don’t give up! Prayer is the answer and faith unlocks the door! Knock, knock! Whose there? Opportunity is here! Knock, knock! Whose there? Opportunity! I (the Anointed One) can heal you from being betrayed; offended, crushed; lied/cheated on & pain!
When Paul dealt with Jesus, it wasn’t Satan himself but the “messenger” of Satan! Gabriel was the messenger of God! The message of the enemy is to cause affliction, trauma, devastation! When someone transmits a bad report, return with a positive answer! Paul refused to accept unfavorable news!
The enemy may send a message that you have a terminal disease, reply back: “I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord!” Also, “My God shall supply my every need!” “The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want” “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” “In tears, I shall reap if I faint not.” Talk back to the enemy! You don’t scare me! “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” “He shall prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies.”
Adversary: You’re going to get the message! Do you understand! The words are out of my mouth...I have the authority! “My name is “so and so” and “I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE!”
Truly, the “Angel of the House’s” legacy is in the “SEED” and NOT the “SEAT” — meaning that he values admonishing the Word more than sitting in the “chair of honor” or “chief seats” (no matter where he ministers)! Thanks, again, Pastor Merriwether! We love you and First Lady Shania!
