Bishop’s timely message today, indeed, struck a chord with his audience and his enormous words certainly can flow through a person’s deepest wound! He is a “son of thunder!”
Regarding the topic, the words and demonstration were so dramatic (with red paint as blood along with gadgets and other surgical apparatus). Moreover, it was full of action and our level of consciousness was highly raised! Easily, it could put one on an imaginary journey!!
Granted, the medical illustrations from a natural and celestial view were great things to embrace! Like a surgeon can help people and save lives so can the Lord cut out your diseased heart/nature and put in a new one, a spiritual heart transplant, if you will! He also can replace it with new living tissue so eternal life can flow through!
Lord, I surrender to the works of Your hands! I need You to do surgery on me! I trust the seal of Your hand! He is saying: Welcome to the Operating Room—inside the ARC! Naturally speaking, surgery is a costly procedure in every hospital setting. It is needed and is beneficial because of a gunshot wound, burns, falling down and so forth!
There are three phases for surgery: 1) Pre-op (scheduling/preparation) 2) Intra-Op (Actual) and 3) Post-Op (Recovery). It is strategically done by professionals! Inside the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) are surgical head covering, gloves, shoes and a gown. Such things protect against infections and germs! Also, they are effective but can be infective if not used properly!
God is the Divine Potter and humanity is the clay! It is another way to express His sovereignty over everyone; a way to voice our need to His holy plan and an approach to encourage us to find the purpose for which we have been made. Thus, He wants to mold, shape and transform us in this life so that we may grow in His knowledge, grace and power!
Once again, in the Surgical Room, one needs the isolation gown (protects against splashes). If not clad, blood will splash and the patient’s DNA is now present. We use our hands for a lot of things! Therefore, gloves are a necessity to reduce the risk of contamination of healthcare workers’ hands with blood and body fluids. That also includes contact with mucous membranes and non-intact skin! Shoe and head covers also provide a barrier against possible exposure within a contaminated environment!
Our commentator also produced a long string which represented an innocent child coming into the world! However, through life, different things happened! Have you ever been cut before? Most people who are cut end up bleeding!
Hurt has a History: Paul was a good friend of Silas. They were both beaten and locked up in jail but sang praises and the jail doors were opened! Paul was not like the other apostles. Then, Barnabas brought him to the pioneers of Christ and told them how Saul had seen the Lord on the way to Damascus and how the Lord had spoken to him! He also told them that he (Saul) had preached boldly in the name of Jesus in said city!
After some days, Paul told Barnabas, “Let us return and visit the brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they are.” Now, Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But, Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work.
Hence, there arose a sharp disagreement; so they separated from each other! Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and departed, having been commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord, and he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches!
Hard not to harbor: It’s not good to feel or hold negative emotions (such as anger, dislike or hatred toward someone). It’s your turn to reciprocate but you left me! With all the bleeding, cuts, wounds, hurt, a regular band-aid won’t do! “Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, cause every man to go out from me…”
Joseph’s brothers had put him in a pit and sold him into slavery but he received favor from Potiphar. He also had made friends with the butler and the baker! It makes you bleed to be forgotten! But God sent him to preserve them a posterity in the earth and to save their lives by a great deliverance! He didn’t call Reuben, Simeon, but it was God who sent him!
You did this to me! Whether they did or not, God has you for an assignment! Had you not hurt me, I wouldn’t be in this position! Howbeit, God’s will doesn’t take the hurt away!
The Lord knows that being grieved can be a wound! “He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” Yes, Joseph was cut! Although his brothers triggered on him, he did not retaliate! He forgave! Sometimes in life, you may feel like a failure and can’t revive the situation because you did not forgive!
Hate in the House: You got to pass the test! Lord, work on me! As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated! God can choose the most unlikely to do the job or the humblest and ignore the claims of the proud!
Surely, we want our parents to show favor over us! Why did you select him/her and not me? But, the Lord will remember when others forget! I made better grades; I didn’t give you any trouble, etc. When you try to please your parents, sometimes, it doesn’t work! That will, of course, be devastating! It’s not fair...living in the same house, sitting under the same table and being jilted or ignored!
Over-Draft Love: Genesis 3:6 articulates: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.”
But, with God, He is merciful in any situation! Murder came into the world because of the decision made with Adam/Eve! I left God for you and you did me like that! I’ve been there for you, and you victimized me!
With love, it can be a disaster! You must have protection (time together; forgiveness, etc.)! II Samuel 4:4 states: “And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son who was lamed of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled. It came to pass as she made haste to flee that he fell and became crippled and his name was Mephibosheth.”
Have you ever been dropped and he/she refused to carry you! I depended on you to carry me; look out for me; be loyal—not to betray me but bail me out; to answer your phone and show up! I gave you $800.00, and you wouldn’t even give me $20.00 for gas!
Come into surgery! Somehow... some way, Jesus will put you back together again! Yes, you see blood but there’s another blood! "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…” Bring those cuts/wounds to the altar! Oh, the Blood of Jesus!
There is healing... there is a pulse... saving and sustaining blood! I’m here with the Great Physician! God is working on me; been waiting to get this operation done!
Truly, “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24. Thanks, Dr. Merriwether, for such an excellent performance and for pointing out memorable parts as well! Love and blessings always to U and 1st Lady, Shania Merriwether!
