Take It!

SPEAKER:
Bishop Dr. Robert A. Merriwether, Sr.
SCRIPTURE: St. Matthew 11:12
Our leader certainly is cognizant that the word of God is perfect and complete, giving us all we need to know about Christ, salvation and godliness! Today, he directed us to the above text!
“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.”
Jesus’ statement that the kingdom of God suffers violence is found in the context of His commendation of John the Baptist. Taking the Kingdom by force also refers to those who make a concerted effort to enter the kingdom in spite of violent opposition! Jesus is speaking about His critics and opponents! But, struggles can come in many forms in our lives including a carnal mind which is enmity against God and the lust of our own flesh.
The theme is a powerful and interesting one! John is called the “Baptist” not because of the Baptist Faith but because he baptized Jesus and was willing to immerse people if they repented to for their transgressions! Now, when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said unto him, “Art thou He that should come, or do we look for another?” In other words: Jesus, what are you waiting for?"
John is on death row—willing to die for the name of Christ! His commitment to the Kingdom is not in vain! After he baptized the Savior, a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And being fully persuaded what He had promised, He was also able to perform!
Satan will try to hinder you with anything! Is there anyone who ever questioned God? The Beloved Son answered and said unto them, “Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind received their sight, and the lame walked, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them!
John is distressed knowing that he is about to be beheaded! “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in Me.” Offense is a stumbling block! God has set up boundaries that will allow torment to come your way! He has established guidelines/guardrails for you!
God can condone His elect to suffer, and may not know what the outcome will be! Sometimes, it’s hard to conceive that we are His precious prize when going through horrific events—including those who preach the gospel! We must understand that it pleased the Father to bruise His Son!
Like making a cake, you blend it to make sure that there are no lumps but comes out smooth! Same with life, God will ruffle you at times with pain for the betterment! Reminder: His ways are not our ways neither our thoughts His thoughts!
One can have a testimony of survival! You should have died; left “cuckoo” or whatever but the Prince of Peace kept you clothed in your right mind! “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus!”
Can you imagine Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who spotted evil and no one expected them to recover! But, they held to their faith in the Creator! Everyone else was burnt but they walked out of the fiery furnace, burn-free! The Lord has to approve us to go through things so that others might see!
Hold dear that we are “smothered and covered” by the presence of God, His mercy, blood and love! It’s about His will! Matthew 11:7 says: “And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?” As the Lord can heal the crushed reed to produce grain once again, so He can with a weak or impressionable person—revive or save an individual from sin and shame!
I Peter 4:12-13 emphasizes: “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”
The reference to kings' houses might be a dig at Herod, the ruler who had imprisoned John the Baptist for calling out his unlawful marriage to his brother's wife. Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. However, John served the King of kings!” He who is less than he, is in the kingdom of heaven greater than he!
This is a depiction of how God is! Isaiah 53:2 denotes: “For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.”
“Yet, it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when Thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see his seed, He shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”
The presentation of John was not a pretty one! Thus, the uglier the situation, the more you should give Him glory! II Corinthians 4:17 declares: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” You seen the worse/deplorable, but what you experienced is not compared to what we will be blessed with!
When Jesus preached the gospel, many people couldn’t wait their turn to be healed/delivered! Recall the palsy man? He tore up the roof to see Jesus! Let not violence, persecutions, tribulations prevent you from being what God wants you to be! With faith, take the good by force and claim your breakthrough!
Reiterating: Those who suffered mistreatment, assaults, sickness and abuse, refuse to let such horrific things control you! Thus, I’m claiming my stuff (comfort, humor, contentment, peace, healing, sanctity, family, finances, job, etc.)! I’m not asking for it—I’m taking it! It’s not for the askers but the takers! Its time for me to retrieve it!
This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it to me and the world can’t take it away! That’s my stuff! It’s not yours...It’s MINE!! Don’t be too nice—speak with authority! You been asking long enough! Guess what? Standing by is over—those days have ended! Your layover is over and you are about to take off! Fasten your seat belt and “hit the road!” Take it! Take it! I’m “stingy” with my blessings!
I Samuel 30:8 mentions: “And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And He answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all. “
As disclosed, this season is not for the askers but takers! This is a “stick-up!” Take off your shoes and run the perpetrator down until he’s captured! Don’t cry, quick, just take it! Heaven is pursing me! I may have been bruised, nuts, discouraged but I’m taking it! I’m free, I’m free, indeed! You tried to destroy/crush me, but you lost! Healing is my portion! The Omnipotent One can destroy yokes, chains and sin!
Thanks, pastor, for another stirring sermon! Indeed your words were powerful, prophetic and prevailing! God bless you and First Lady always as you utilize your services in the ministry!
