God Remembered!

I Samuel 1:16-19
Today’s message from our orator was words of love, hope and redemption! The Lord, indeed, poured the oil of gladness upon us in Zion; It was beauty for ashes and a garment of praise!
“Do not think your servant a worthless woman; my prayer has been prompted by my deep sorrow and misery.” Eli said, “Go in peace and may the God of Israel grant you what you have requested. She replied, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes” and left. She went to her quarters, ate and drank with her husband and no longer appeared downhearted.
Early the next morning they worshipped before the LORD, and then returned to their home in Ramah. When they returned, Elkanah knew his wife, Hannah. and the LORD remembered her.”
The story is a painful pregnancy process which took Hannah to a whole new level of what she was dealing with! Through her life, she learned to wait on the Lord and trust in His sovereignty. When frustrated, God will work at His own timing and place for our life! The Lord will keep and protect His people and remember us in the time of distress!
Further, Emmanuel can remove our ability and there is no way to circumvent or prevent His action! Jonah found out running away from God would not be in his favor. In Samuel 1:1, we see a man called Elkanah who had two wives: Hannah and Peninnah. The latter had children, but Hannah had none!
The conversations with both women were different! The husband had to move from one room to the next—under the same roof! He balanced out a celebration and sensitivity—again, under the same dwelling! Have your ever been a mother and father or the older sibling and parent?
Elkanah had challenges between the two spouses! But, unto Hannah, he gave a worthy portion; for he loved her: but the Lord had shut up her womb! As elaborated in I Samuel, verse 3, he went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests like their father, but they abused their position and misused the people and their offerings!
People will use a reason for not going to church but Eli pressed his way to the House of God to praise His name! Stop making excuses! For example: I have nothing to wear to church, I have homework, I’m too busy, etc. Despite of what was going on, Ekanah did not cease from honoring his Maker!
You can have bad experiences at restaurants; the hospitals, stores, et al, but you keep going back to it or another public establishment but not the House of Worship! Don’t end your relationship with the Almighty because of funny-acting individuals!
I dare you to extol a cow (going out to eat) over the living God! Repeat: Elkanah did not allow anything to stop him from obeying the Master! You can take a lunch break but do not break or pause for God! “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the House of the Lord!”
But unto Hannah, Elkanah gave a worthy portion; for he loved her despite the fact that El Roi (the God who sees) had shut up her womb! It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, have faith, pray and think back that God can rescue you! Learn that no one can stop the Omnipotent!
Quit blaming folk and realize that it was the Rock of our Salvation! Reiterating: When He shuts the door, be mindful that it is He! He is God all by Himself even when people turn their backs on you! The mature Christian will say: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him. But, I will maintain mine own ways before Him.” Job 13:15. “For His anger endureth but a moment; in His favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5.
Although Peninnah, whose name means “fertile” or “prolific” had children, she was also cruel to Hannah. As quoted in I Samuel 1:6, she provoked, picked, bragged, teased and rubbed it in her face about being childless! However, it was a blessing in disguise!!
Through it all, Hannah had a broken and contrite heart...she prayed continuously to the Lord! Thus, it’s important to pray, sweat, fast and deny ourselves so that we may hear from the Holy One! There may be times that God will send a “Peninnah” to push you to the limits but, as emphasized, believe, pray, fast and praise God!
Agitations are distractions that take us off course and keep us from seeing the bigger picture of our lives. For instance: A “popcorn kernel...pebbles in your shoes; talking during a movie and a bye-bye yawn! Also, a mosquito in the summer time; double-parking, clicking your pen; chewing gum and making bubbles; not washing your hands; brown-nosing; bragging, nose pimple! It’s just annoying; being a nuisance...shows no respect!”
I Samuel 1:11 cites: “And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if Thou wilt, indeed, look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.”
Now Hannah spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore, Eli thought she was drunken; and Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunk? put away thy wine from thee. But, Hannah was praying in her heart! There may be times that no one understands you but “All our desires are before Him and our groaning are not hid from Him!”
People don’t know what you’ve been through...never had tears, rejection on this level! I’m someone who has been poked, picked on, probed, provoked and in pain! Moreover, mistreated, evicted, heart-broken, dysfunctional, etc.
The Lord is conscious of how you served, sacrificed, sowed and showed up—even when you were exhausted, weak and worn! “Weeping may endureth for a night but joy cometh in the morning.” Additionally, “No weapon formed against thee shall prosper.” “He that shall come will come and not tarry.” Certainly, “He knows our frame and the feelings of our infirmities!
Surely, the Everlasting Father does not have dementia, amnesia nor Alzheimer! He recalls and rose from the grave! I’m not going to keep quite nor breakdown! Though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great!
Rejoice (celebrate God) and pre-joice (Exalting Him for what He’s going to do)! I made a vow to the Lord and I won’t take it back! When Hannah had Samuel, it took all the attention from Peninnah! The latter’s children are not even named in the Bible but Samuel is identified!
The pastor’s message today was absolutely a reminder that God ordains trials to test the reality of our faith! The sermon also was like the processing of purifying precious metals! Whereas, God desires to put us through as He prepares us to be “fitly framed” into His holy temple (Ephesians 2:21). Hallelujah! Thank you, sir, and to your beloved wife, 1st Lady Shania Merriwether (FLOTA) for the love, ministry and unity that you both share.
