I'll Be Back!

Speaker:
Bishop Dr. Robert A. Merriwether Sr.
Reference Text:
Genesis 22:1-5, 14
One who is appointed, anointed and abounding in the Word is our beloved pastor who deposited a fiery sermon on today! Certainly, he’s one who can examine/expound the Truth explicitly, get our attention and make an appeal!
“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And He said, Take now thy son, thine only son, Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son and clave the wood for the burnt offering…” He positively expected to sacrifice Isaac, but he also trusted God's promise that through Isaac should all nations be blessed!Abraham told his servants that he and Isaac would return (“or” I’ll Be Back) because He knew that God could raise Isaac from the dead!
The text is the beginning of the first five books of the Bible written by Moses. Before the event with Abraham and Isaac, God revealed unto the “law-giver” that he: “Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel...You, yourselves, have seen what I did…”
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man” The scripture is not contradictory! Immanuel did not tempt Abraham (nor anyone) to sin! Rather, He tested Abraham to see if he would sin or be faithful to Him! God allows Satan to tempt us! But, we do not have to yield to any allurement!
Further, Jesus was tempted or "put to the test" (proved) so to speak, but, He did not surrender to snares and fall into disobedience! Jesus "passed the test!" Trials and tests will confirm how much we trust God! Thus, it’s incumbent upon us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.”
Can you still have hope in Christ when the “tables are turned” or a major change has happened, especially one that results in the opposite of an earlier situation? You won’t know who you’re dealing with unless it’s been recognized! I got to know who you are or what I’m dealing with! “And, be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, acceptable and the perfect will of God. For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.”
Repeat: Abraham complied when he took his son and went to Moriah and offered him up for a burnt offering! Moriah means “Chosen by God!” One’s experiences are chosen by the Lord! My life has been directed by our Heavenly Father! “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
By the end of the story, Abraham knew that God was not like the pagan gods that demanded human sacrifice! During that time, there was pagan worshippers outside of Israel. “For I am persuaded, that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present...nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I was radical for the devil! Now, I’m radical for God! I’m extending profound love of forgiveness, compassion/grace to ourselves and others even in the face of flaws; also urging man to get saved. “Go out into the highways/hedges and compel them to come in that my house may be filled.”
The change and journey made by God for Abraham were laid out! Why would God do Abraham like this? The answer was for His providential purpose! An act was deliberately committed! The “Father of Many Nations” was not acting impulsive! He depended upon the “Divine Deliverer!”
Abraham had so much faith that Jehovah-Rapha would even have raised him up even if Isaac was killed! He would have put everything (muscle tissues, bones, sinews, etc.) back together! He that shall come will come and not tarry! “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen!” We all have our mountain! We’re “coming back” ...no matter what it looks like! I may be down but I’m not out! I’ve maintained a positive attitude and tackled challenges with a renewed sense of determination! Hear ye the word of the Lord! God has already declared the end from the beginning!
With our Refuse/Fortress, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). No sickness, devil, addiction, depression, et al can be contrary! I’m not coming back in a body bag—funeral possession! I’m coming with a revived natural/spiritual life—nothing missing...nothing broken! I am returning to worship God! Live or die, I will honor the Almighty! Savior: I trust you with my children, spouse and uncontrollable things! I may not get the victory over cancer, diseases, rejection but I’m coming back to God with joy, victory, anointing, glory—stronger, wiser, better—so much better!
And Abraham called that place (Jehovah-jireh)—the location of the binding of Isaac. When you have faith, your name, ID, job, circumstances, outcome, mind, eyes, tradition, finance, transportation, health, residence, nature, rules, law can be changed—just to benefit you! Do it for me, Lord, right now! What a wonderful change that has come over me! “...Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Whose report are you going to believe?
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him…” Job 13:15. “Though I have fallen, I will rise! Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light...I will see His righteousness.” I’LL BE BACK!!
Our overseer surely can attest: “Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of His power.” Love, prayers and blessings always to you and 1st Lady Shania Merriwether.
