When On Assignment: Mind Your Business

Speaker:
Chief Stella Patterson
Reference Text:
Matthew 6:31-33
Preaching the Truth...the whole Truth...nothing but the Truth was Chief of Police, Raleigh, N.C. (as named above)! She expounded the Word with “fervor and facts,” igniting our souls! She borrowed the above theme from ARC’s Women’s Conference, March 5-12, 2023.
The subtopic, “Mind Your Business” can be deciphered as two-fold: “Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not men,” (or be about your Father’s business) Colossians 3:23. Or, “... aspire to live quietly and to mind your own affairs…” I Thessalonians 4:11-12.
She added that Maya Angelou, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and so many others were women of stature! We, too, can be influential when we go through life with purpose and are conscious of our actions! Thus, always have a posture of readiness!
Again, Jesus is speaking about His assignment! “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” He wants us to take care of His business and He will take care of ours! Moreover, He will make a way out of no way! “...The cattle on a thousand hills are His…”
Have a craving or stay in your lane to do good; pay attention, discern, be alert to assist people! However, don’t be a “nosy rosey” (extremely nosy, annoying, prying, meddlesome)!
Don’t worry about who's gossiping and trying to make you upset...Be concerned about your health and welfare! There is nothing too hard for Him! When was the last time that you gave God praise? If you trust in Him, He will bless you mightily! The Greek word for seek is to crave, due diligently...to find...desire...yearn!
Analogy: In essence, she and her spouse couldn’t find their car that they thought was parked on their selected deck. They were baffled! We know what lane...we have our keys; was it stolen, repossessed or what? They looked high and low! Then, they realized they were on the wrong deck! How much more should we sacrifice time, energy, sleep, etc. to praise and worship Him!
Who wouldn’t serve a God like this? “Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near! Let the wicked forsake his way, let him return to the Lord that He may have mercy on him, and to our God for He will abundantly pardon.”
Also, he that comes to God must laboriously seek Him! Seek His kingdom; be wise with your assignment! It’s time out for “joking, ‘smokin, skinning and grinning!” Repeat: Be about your Father’s business! Jehovah should not be on the “back burner!” There’s a lot to be done; hence, put the Lord front and center!
Kingdom work must take preeminence because souls are at stake! It’s nothing to be played with but stay focused on our Savior! Seek His righteousness and not our own because “Our righteousness are as filthy rags or polluted garments.” “But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth that thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee openly.”
Remember that the Kingdom of God is synonymous to Kingdom of Heaven! “...and I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away, and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” Revelations 21:1-2.
There is only one way to the Redeemer! He declared: “I Am the Way, Truth and Life; no one cometh unto the Father but by Me!” The Kingdom of God consists of three things: 1) Repentance (acknowledge or turn around); 2) Baptism (or immersion) in Jesus’ Name for the removal of sin; 3) Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongue as the Spirit of God gives utterance.
“He called the things that were not as though they were, and they became…” Romans 4:17. Now, let us walk in the newness of life with God’s help! We are new creatures in Christ! “Blessed is the man that seeks the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.” We want to be like a tree that’s planted by the rivers of water! A runner should always fix his eyes on the goal or race!
Everything associates with God...It has to be about Him as stated in Matthew 6:33. We can do God’s will by learning the Word...have it hidden in our heart! There is a lot of reckless behavior among folk! We need protection...covering! All-State Insurance Corporation says: “You’re in good hands!” Well, you’re in good hands with Jesus! “God has not given us the spirit of fear but love, power and a sound mind.”
Know, read and study the Word for yourself! Also pray! “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16. A broken and contrite heart will allow one to have sweet communion with our Creator! Let us be prayer warriors! Go into your “prayer closet” and petition God! “O come, let us worship and bow down: Let us kneel before the LORD our maker!” It is imperative that we be about our Father’s business!
Indeed, Chief Patterson is a useful vessel who transforms lives, naturally and spiritually. We definitely value the insights and guidance that she provides! Thanks, beautiful woman of God! We have been fed scrumptiously from the sermon that was par excellence!
